چکیده

Transvaginal sonographic measurement of cervical length, at 20 weeks of gestation, is very useful to predict spontaneous preterm birth. A large number of studies have been performed in the attempt to detect the spontaneous preterm birth on the basis of biological, biochemical and ultrasound parameters. Transvaginal Sonography is a good tool to evaluate the cervix. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between cervical length measured by transvaginal ultrasonography and the risk of spontaneous preterm birth. This is a prospective observational analytical study. The study population consisted of 150 pregnant women who had at least one risk factor for preterm labor. The patients underwent transvaginal sonography at 14-28 weeks of gestation. Samples were collected from Imam Ali Hospital of Zahedan, Iran, from 2011 to 2012. The data were analyzed using the SPSS program and student T paired test. A cervical length of 18 mm was the best cut-off value to predict the preterm delivery at <35 and at <37 weeks’ gestation. Using logistic regression test showed that the cervical length less than 18 mm has a strong statistical correlation with SPDT at <35 and at <37 weeks of gestation. (P value= 0.001 and P value=0.005, respectively). Cervical length measured by transvaginal ultrasonography in pregnant women with the risk of preterm labor, at <35 and at <37 weeks, predicts spontaneous preterm birth and helps reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality. Background: Preterm delivery is a relevant public health problem. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between spontaneous preterm delivery (SPTD) before 35 and 37 weeks of gestational age and the measurement of the cervix length, cervical funneling and Cervical Gland Area (CGA), in high risk pregnant population. Methods: A prospective cohort of 200 women carrying high ris...

Transvaginal sonographic measurement of cervical length to predict preterm birth in asymptomatic women at increased risk: a systematic review.

OBJECTIVES To estimate the ability of cervical length measured by transvaginal ultrasonography in asymptomatic high-risk women to predict spontaneous preterm birth. METHODS MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library were searched for articles published in any language between January 1980 and July 2006, using the keywords 'transvaginal ultrasonography' or ('cervix' and ('ultrasound' or ...

Transvaginal Sonographic Evaluation of the Cervix in Asymptomatic Singleton Pregnancy and Management Options in Short Cervix

Preterm delivery (PTD), defined as birth before 37 completed weeks of gestation, is the leading cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality. Evaluation of the cervical morphology and biometry with transvaginal ultrasonography at 16-24 weeks of gestation is a useful tool to predict the risk of preterm birth in low- and high-risk singleton pregnancies. For instance, a sonographic cervical length (...

Is transvaginal ultrasonography at mid-trimester useful for predicting early spontaneous preterm birth?

Numerous reports have examined the relationship between sonographically determined cervical length and spontaneous preterm birth. Moreover, large screening studies have consistently demonstrated that the shorter the cervical length, the higher the rate of spontaneous preterm delivery. However, the sensitivity and positive predictive value of the cervical length for detecting preterm birth were ...

Vaginal progesterone, cerclage or cervical pessary for preventing preterm birth in asymptomatic singleton pregnant women with a history of preterm birth and a sonographic short cervix.

OBJECTIVE To compare the outcome of pregnancy in cohorts of women with singleton pregnancy and history of preterm birth and sonographic short cervix managed with different treatment protocols, namely cerclage, vaginal progesterone or cervical pessary. METHODS This was a comparison of three management protocols for women with singleton pregnancy and a high risk of preterm birth because of a pr...
